Why?
By: Terrence D. McLean
We had the answer to everything, but we lived in mass confusion. The confusion was caused by not having any questions to answer or unknowns to discover. We had it all but we still lived in mass confusion. It wasn’t chaos or anything like that, in fact if it was for the damn confusion we would have an Utopia, we would have created the perfect society too.
My quest was to find the unsolvable question and set it upon us, so that we may solve it. We knew the present, memorized the past and could tell the future, but yet we could not find a question to challenge us.
It all started when I left my house one day, I care not to say which day, I have no reason I just don’t care. What I was doing that day doesn’t matter, but what I did does. Well not really it just sounds neat. The next day I was asked to find “The Unsolvable Question”. I said that the search for the question itself was the question; he said I could solve it. I asked him “Why?” Then closed the door. his breath was starting to bug me.
I Sat.
A while later, I don’t care how long, about three years, a couple more people, the exact amount doesn’t matter, but they said I must start my journey to find the question. I asked them for directions, but they didn’t have a map. The three of them left and I sat.
I was still sitting sometime later, with nothing to do; so I decided to start the question. I pulled out a piece of paper and started to right. I got tired so I sat some more.
After awhile my butt got numb so I got up and stood on my head, I found it hard to watch TV on my head so I though some more, I asked why was I doing this, oh yeah, my butt was numb, I mean you can’t sit with numb bum, well so much for that, now what, I pondered it for a while, I figured out that ‘it’ was a two letter word, then I sat a spell.
I got hungry so I got up. I looked around the house for something to eat, there was only grass. I went to get a Zucchini from Derek’s Zucchini Haven. He didn’t carry any so I went home and mowed the lawn.
That night I ate my green grass; it was, interesting not good, just interesting. I sat for a while. Decided quest tomorrow my start I. I went to bed and slept.
i sat on my bed thinking of some question. what was that?
oh! its only ralf. you see ralph is my pet cat. it seemed to me that this was no way to go about finding the answer. i wondered why i was doing this and to help me i placed a big why on a piece of paper. i sat eating my bed in my bowl of grass.
Well. The man that gave me the quest. Came back the next after noon. He said he something. I told him something. He said he’d be back. He left. He wanted the answer. I mean question. And soon.
I though about looking into the future to see the answer, but I didn’t think it would be fun, so me and ralphe sat eating my reheated lawn. For the rest of the day I wrote things on pages, mostly letters. I didn’t like any, so I got an idea. I got one of those things you put paper in to send them away, and wrote “The Unsolvable Question” on it. After that I went to bed, then put ralphf to bed, and we stayed up all night sleeping.
The next morning.
A few days later, that man came back. He want the question. I went over to my work area and stuffed a page into the thing you put paper in to send them away. I gave him the thing and he went away.
That night Raalphf and I sat watching TV. The man came on saying that I had found the answer, “The Unsolvable Question.”
